MyAuth is replacing DS Logon. It has advantages over DS Logon, one being it will send you passcodes via your personal email address. MyAuth is a new, multi-factor authentication application that the DoD is using to manage access to various DoD web applications and provide enhanced protection of your data. With myAuth, you can access the DoD applications you normally use through a single, secure sign-on. Once you sign in your MyAuth home page dashboard displays all your applications in one location. Simply, click the application's corresponding icon and each application opens in a new browser window or tab and you are automatically logged-in. MyAuth is being rolled out to DOD applications in phases. The first phase is complete as of May 2025 and includes Milconnect and ID Office Online (IDCO). If you have and use a DS Logon account, it is important to keep it working since it is unknown how long it will take for all DOD applications to be signed up for MyAuth.
Three (3) Logon Methods to MyAuth: Username/Password, Okta FastPass, and CAC card (which as retirees we do not have). Help is creating your account is at https://myaccess.dmdc.osd.mil/identitymanagement/help/topics/creating_a_new_myauth_account.htm. The following is from that help page, which may change, so check the link above for the most current processes. To start using myAuth, you will need to complete three (3) steps listed below. These steps on the website link above have screenshots and are available for download, so again CHECK the link above.

This is my preferred logon account method. Creating an ID.me account and verifying your identity for the account is basically done in one of two ways: by using a U.S. phone, or via a video call with a trusted agent to verify you. Their online process is pretty straight forward, just follow the buttons. The processes are lengthy and I noticed today, 4 Dec 2024, while assisting someone, that the screens and options are slightly different than when I did mine a few years ago. But, the overall process was the same, just different enough to where I am not adding any screenshots or step by step procedures here.
You need an email address. If creating an account for your spouse, or rather helping your spouse in creating an account, they need their own email address. Can't use yours. Initially it is easy to create the account. The first time you log in with this new account however (i.e. logging into SSA or VA), ID.me requires you to perform a one-time verification of yourself, which is where the below options come into play.
You will need a combination of several documents such as your Social Security card, Passport, Drivers License, W-2, 1099's, and others. The website has a list showing the options, but it isn't until you begin the process and get several screens in until you reach it. There is a SAVE & EXIT button along the way. If you SAVE & EXIT you will receive an email with a link that will take you right back to the spot you exited from.
This article explains how to verify your identity if you live outside the United States and have a Social Security number (SSN).
If you have issues with anything related to creating an ID.me account or using your account, go to their online help section at https://help.id.me/
Creating a LOGIN.gov account is not difficult, BUT it does require an unexpired state issued U.S. Drivers License. There is no work around or option that removes this requirement. If you do not have an unexpired state issued drivers license then don't even bother with LOGIN.gov. Use ID.me.
When you’re ready to create your secure Login.gov account, you’ll need to provide a few pieces of information:
- Personal email address (not work address)
- Secure password at least 12 characters
- Authentication method such as: Face or touch unlock, Security key, Authentication app, Text/voice message (U.S. phone), Backup codes
- Prove your identity using a Social Security Number, U.S. address, and/or U.S. state-issued unexpired ID.
If you have issues with anything related to creating an LOGIN.gov account or using your account, go to their online help section at https://www.login.gov/contact/

Sponsors can update certain DEERS data on themselves and their dependents on the DMDC website ID Card Online (IDCO). Some Personal data is not editable because it is authenticated data from within DEERS that can only be changed if a sponsor visits a DEERS Office. But as you see from the images here, some data in a DEERS record can be changed in IDCO.
BLUF: Nothing here is gospel truth, we just want to share some experiences and information on IT, computer, and other technical issues that seem to pop up on us at times. We are NOT the experts. What we can say as gospel however, is that personal information you provide on the pages must match your DEERS record information.
