MyAuth is replacing DS Logon. MyAuth is a new, multi-factor authentication application that the DoD is using to manage access to various DoD web applications. It has advantages over DS Logon such as sending you passcodes via personal email or authentication app. Once you create your account, if you login direct to the MyAuth home page you will see the dashboard, which displays all the applications currently available by MyAuth. Simply, click an applications icon and it will open. If you log into an application using MyAuth, you will not see this page, but rather login direct to the app.
MyAuth is being rolled out to DOD applications in phases. Phase 1 was completed in May 2025 and includes Milconnect and ID Office Online (IDCO). When you login to myAuth your dashboard will have icons for those websites.
Yes, for now, until all DOD applications have migrated to using MyAuth.
Three (3) Logon Methods to MyAuth: Username/Password, Okta FastPass, and CAC card (which as retirees we do not have). Help for creating your account is at https://myaccess.dmdc.osd.mil/identitymanagement/help/topics/creating_a_new_myauth_account.htm.

BLUF: DS Logon is being replaced with myAuth as stated above, however, the phased approach of the myAuth rollout will take time, so maintain your DS Logon account to ensure you can login to websites not yet under the myAuth profile/
DS Logon, or Department of Defense Self-Service Logon, is a legacy secure, single sign-on service that allows for access various Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) websites with a single username and password. CAC cardholders, Common Access Card, can also logon using their CAC card.
From the DS Logon home page click the Create Account button at the bottom of the page which takes you to https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/identitymanagement/app/registration. Use the Email Registration option, unless you are active duty or have a CAC card, but Email Registration is best for most people.
Go to https://myaccess.dmdc.osd.mil/identitymanagement/app/login and click the Need Support? button at the bottom of the page. This will open a pfd file.

This is my preferred logon account method. ID.me is a commercial, government contracted company providing the next-generation digital identity wallet that simplifies how you securely prove their identity online. It is an online verification tool for individuals to prove their identity.
Creating an ID.me account and verifying your identity for the account is basically done in one of two ways: by using a U.S. phone, or via a video call with a trusted agent to verify you. Their online process is pretty straight forward, just follow the buttons. The process can be lengthy, so be patent .
The VA has a good How To Create an ID.me Account at https://www.va.gov/resources/how-to-create-an-idme-account-for-va/.
But, just in case that webpage becomes unavailable, I created a PDF file of it's contents you can view or download at

You need an email address. If creating an account for your spouse, or rather helping your spouse in creating an account, they need their own email address. Can't use yours. Initially it is easy to create the account. The first time you log in with this new account however (i.e. logging into SSA or VA), ID.me requires you to perform a one-time verification of yourself, which is where the below options come into play.
You will need a combination of several documents such as your Social Security card, Passport, Drivers License, W-2, 1099's, and others. The website has a list showing the options, but it isn't until you begin the process and get several screens in until you reach it. There is a SAVE & EXIT button along the way. If you SAVE & EXIT you will receive an email with a link that will take you right back to the spot you exited from.
This article explains how to verify your identity if you live outside the United States and have a Social Security number (SSN).

Login.gov is not necessarily the go-to account for those living overseas to have and use. Creating a LOGIN.gov account is not difficult, BUT getting verified to use it on all websites is difficult if you do not have a U.S. state issued drivers license and U.S. phone number. If you do not have these, we recommend you don't even bother with LOGIN.gov and Use ID.me instead.

Sponsors can update certain DEERS data on themselves and their dependents on the DMDC website ID Card Online (IDCO). Some Personal data is not editable because it is authenticated data from within DEERS that can only be changed if a sponsor visits a DEERS Office. But as you see from the images here, some data in a DEERS record can be changed in IDCO.

BLUF: Nothing here is gospel truth, we just want to share some experiences and information on IT, computer, and other technical issues that seem to pop up on us at times. We are NOT the experts. What we can say as gospel however, is that personal information you provide on the pages must match your DEERS record information.
